Rs 9 lakh fine on Lalit Grand

SRINAGAR, May 16: The Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir, has imposed a fine of Rs 9 lakh on The Lalit Grand Palace for failing to renew its registration since 2019 and operating the hotel “illegally”.

In this regard, the hotel management has been served with a show-cause notice, informing them about the imposition of the fine and seeking compliance as per the law, or face action.

“As verified from the records of this office, you have not renewed your Registration Certificate on time and therefore are running your business illegally as per the provisions of the J&K Registration Tourist Trade Act/Rules, which is punishable under Section 28 of the Registration of Tourist Trade Act 1978,” read the notice.

It added: “You were required to renew the registration certificate, but despite the lapse of almost 5 years, you have failed to do so, which is a violation under the provisions of the said Act.”

In light of the Act, the notice stated, a fine of Rs 9,02,000 is hereby imposed on M/s The Lalit Grand Palace for the aforementioned violations till 30-04-2024.
“In view of the above, and before the commercial operation of the unit is suspended or the unit is blacklisted as per the Registration of Tourist Trade Act, you are hereby directed to immediately renew the registration certificate and deposit the above-mentioned fine within a period of 7 days from the issuance of this notice.”
